Gruber is one of six staff photographers at USA TODAY, the nation's largest newspaper with a daily circulation over two million readers.

Jack began his career as a part-time photographer at the Greenville (Ohio) Daily Advocate at the age of sixteen. After graduating from the Ohio University School of Visual Communication as the program's Outstanding Graduate in 1989 and winner of the William Randolph Hearst National Photojournalism Championship, Jack worked as a staff photographer at the Flint Journal until 1994, then moved to the Detroit News for four years and then worked at the Commercial Appeal in Memphis before joining the staff at USA TODAY.

Based in San Francisco with USA TODAY since 2000, Jack resides in the Bay Area with his wife Amy and their two cats, Puck and Obie.
